Rebecca Ferguson Should Play James Bond

She would make a great 007

Bond fans were both shaken and stirred recently when Amazon announced that Denis Villanueva would be taking over the 007 franchise.

Villanueva, director of Dune Parts 1 and 2, as well as the upcoming Dune Messiah movie. The French Canadian filmmaker is known for visually stunning, expertly crafted stories. 

But with the new director in place, and with Daniel Craig stepping down as Bond, there’s really only one question left to ask.

Who is going to be the new 007?

Fans have floated a few castings over the years, Henry Cavill, Dev Patel, and Aaron Taylor Johnson, to name a few. 

However, Amazon recently announced that they weren’t on the list. 

There is one name though that should be considered if one wants to get a little adventurous.

Rebecca Ferguson should play James Bond.

Ferguson has been making serious waves over the last couple years. 

She stars in the critically acclaimed, and financially successful, Dune movies as Lady Jessica. She also stars in and executive produces Silo on AppleTV. Her credits also include Doctor Sleep and The Greatest Showman. 

Ferguson has been acting for years, starting on Swedish television but hit the mainstream as Isla Faust opposite Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible movies. 

She’s shown she can play a spy. Mission Impossible confirmed that.

And, while the actress herself is fun and goofy, she can pull off a cunning and poised Bond. 

She’s already a popular choice to play the villain or another 700 agent.

Here’s the thing though.

I feel like if there is ever a female James Bond movie they will do something like make it Jane Bond or just call her 007 and have her be a slightly different character. 

But I think she should just play James Bond.

Have her wear the suit, drive the Aston Martin, be a womanizer, drink martinis. All the hallmarks. 

Basically, I want them to write a script for Daniel Greg, and then just swap her in and no one says anything about it.

They mostly just referred to the character as bond so I would just do it like that. 

If you’ve ever seen an interview with her, you know she has an effortless swagger about her and she can command screen presence like very few people can. 

Between Mission Impossible, Dune, and Silo she's well versed in action sciences. 

Plus, soon both Dune and Silo will be done filming which would mean she should be available. 

Amazon has expressed wanting to go a younger route, with names like Tom Holland and Jacob Elordi being floated. Ostensibly so they can lock them down for the next twenty years. 

But Ferguson is the best choice. Also, if they wanted to do a period flick, Ferguson has the quintessential old Hollywood look. 

Imagine her going to the bar, ordering a martini and then entering a high stakes poker game. 

Besides, it would create all kinds of buzz. 

Oh, think of all the think pieces. 

Plus, it would mean a huge press tour and Ferguson kills interviews.

I think it would be fun.
