She walked into her room looking for her phone.
It was the third time she’d lost her phone that week. If her mom knew it was gone she’d never hear the end of it.
Finally , she found it wedged behind her bed.
She breathed a sigh of relief. She also shivered. It was suddenly cold. The window was open too. She couldn’t remember the last time she opened the window.
She shut it and went to head downstairs.
But she noticed how good her hair looked in the mirror. She pulled out her phone and went to take a picture when she screamed.
Her camera showed a man behind her.
She wheeled around, but there was no one there.
Confused, she looked at her phone this time the man was behind her again.
This time he was closer. Again, she turned. The room was empty behind her.
Quickly she realized that he only moved when she looked away.
She stared, and stared and the man remained frozen behind her. She stood frozen. For what seemed like hours, she stared at the phone screen not daring to look away. Finally she blinked and in that short instant the man was closer.
Her arm was aching. It was all she could do to hold the phone.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
Her battery was about to die.
The man knew it too. He started smiling.
Finally, the screen went dark.
She turned around.
There was no one there.
“Thank god,” she said.
And then she felt his breath on her neck.
